One of the joys of my heart is sharing LIFE with those that have walked through the fire of cancer and survived!
Millie had a sweet, special friend name Leaven that she met during treatment. Levy, as we call her, has now completed her treatment and is thriving in good health. We are so incredibly grateful!
Because of the special spot Levy had in our journey, her family has become precious friends of mine. Each time I see them, I get a hug and a smile from all the children. Their mama, Winter, has become a dear friend too. You might even remember that she owns a photography business and took the amazing “angel warrior” photos of Millie, Levy, and Ady. I still look at Millie’s photo every day as it hangs by my bed. It is a perfect and beautiful remembrance of our girl and her personality.
Yesterday, I got an opportunity to hand deliver a “Millie Finds Her Miracle” book to Levy. As I rang the bell, the children all met me at the door with Levy offering her sweet hug right off. She usually takes a few minutes to warm up to me (it’s hard to believe she was 3 when we met, she’s almost 6 now she told me!). I snagged a hug from her sister and a fist bump from big brother. Then, we all settled on the couch while we read Millie’s book together. The children searched each page for the hidden butterflies. We discussed the different pages and what they represented. We even discussed heaven at the end and how happy and healed Millie is. We didn’t share tears, only JOY remembering a life well lived and still ALIVE in JESUS.
Once Levy’s book was safely on her shelf, we sat down to a tea party with her little pink tea set that our family had purchased for her bell ringing. That was such an exciting day to be part of and the tea set represents each time she comes to the farm to visit, we have tea. After our tea party, we headed to the backyard to inspect her new playhouse that Ideal Homes and Children’s Hospital Foundation delivered for Christmas. What an amazing gift to receive! It was beautiful and big enough for all three kids to play in.
My time with their family was soon over but not before I was reminded how so many good things have come with this journey. I would always choose to have Millie with us of course, but the good and beautiful side of this cancer family is that our heartache is often soothed by the balm of the kids that survive. We rejoice with them!
